Importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle after surgery.....

It is very important to remember that your doctor can only removed the fat cells present at the time of the liposuction surgery.  It is the patient's responsibility to eat a healthy diet, exercise and make lifestyle choices that will prevent further weight gain and the formation of more fat.  Those that do not eat a healthy diet are 3 times more likely to gain weight than those eating a healthy diet, and those that do not exercise are 4 times more likely to gain weight than those who do.  The instant results of your procedure are amazing and naturally satisfying, but to maintain these results, a healthy diet and regular exercise regiment must be followed.

Eating Right!!!!

Making healthier food choices will not only increase the effects of your surgery, but will also increase your overall health.  Here are some times for healthier eating.

  • Eat small meals throughout the day
  • Eliminate all drinks containing sugar
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day
  • Increase your intake of lean proteins such as chicken, fish and turkey
  • Eat breakfast and do not skip meals
  • Add leafy green vegetables to most if not all meals (example; spinach, broccoli)
  • Lower intake of carbohydrates (if you have to eat them chose who grain products)  REMEMBER carbs break down into sugar
  • Eat at least 5 servings of vegetables and limited fresh fruits (small portions of fruit are okay but still contain sugar)
  • Purchase fresh foods and avoid packaged (processed) and convenient foods such as fast food
  • Watch portion size

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that the average adult should complete 2 hours and 30 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity per week along with 2 days of muscle-strengthening activities.

      What is aerobic activity?

Aerobic activity or "cardio" gets you breathing harder and your heart beating faster. Examples of vigorous aerobic activity include: jogging or running, swimming laps, playing basketball and playing singles tennis.

What counts as muscle-strengthening activity?

To gain health benefits, muscle-strengthening activities need to be done to the point where it's hard for you to do another repetition without help.  The following activities count: lifting weights, working with resistance bands, exercises that work with your body weight (push-ups, sit-ups), and yoga.

When you exercise, your brain releases endorphins.  These chemicals are associated with feeling happy and relieving pain.  The gym does double-duty: helps you keep your stresses to a minimum and keeps you in shape.  That's the kind of package deal you cant get lying on the couch.
